Comfort & Joy

This holiday season, and especially the month of December, we found ourselves surrounded by and reminded of our personal theme (JOY!). Joy sounds illogical right now, I know! I'll be honest—we didn't meet our program goals for the year. Those goals required funding that we simply weren't able to secure, and that reality has been difficult to accept. But here's what I've learned about joy: it doesn't always come from achieving what you set out to accomplish. Sometimes joy comes from smaller, quieter victories—like the simple act of reopening our doors after a temporary closure, or returning to the board room with renewed energy and hope for what 2026 might bring.
Mission: Preserve Palenque is my passion, and seeing this project come back to life after our shutdown fills me with a joy that's hard to put into words. It's the kind of joy that comes from refusing to give up on something you believe in, even when the path forward isn't clear or easy. December's theme for us isn't about grand achievements or hitting ambitious targets—it's about comfort in knowing we're still here, and joy in knowing we'll keep fighting for cultural preservation at Palenque. As we move into the new year, that's the energy we're carrying forward: gratitude for what we have, comfort in our resilience, and joy in simply being able to continue this important work. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Erin
