Our Mission: To fund cultural heritage preservation efforts for the San Basilio de Palenque historical village, a black history and UNESCO cultural heritage site, through online and in-person ethnic tourism, village participation, and socioeconomic development.
Who We Are: Alegría: Palenque Preservation Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, governed by a single Board of Directors, that funds the preservation of the cultural traditions and museum of San Basilio de Palenque.

Our Community Partners: We work with members of the Palenque historical village and Casa Museo Palenque, the village museum, to support Palenquero culture through online and in-person tourism. We will also partner with Palenquera market and tours, Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje SENA, Discol SAS, and Palenquero businesses, artists, and creators.

What We Do: Our initiative accomplishes our mission through donations; grants; fundraising events; sales of village and museum tour tickets and Palenquero art and candy; and fees for membership to our project.
Where We Work: We're headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and San Basilio de Palenque is located in the Colombian municipality of Mahates, in the department of Bolivar. It's approximately 45 minutes away from Cartagena.

When We Work: Our office hours are 09:00 to 17:00 (9:00am to 5:00pm), on Monday through Saturday.
Why We Work: Due to historical marginalization, neglect, discrimination, and acculturation, Palenque has difficulty with maintaining its cultural traditions and meeting its socioeconomic needs.
Additionally, government, academic, and community plans for cultural preservation have produced little to no support; many private entities provide tours of Palenque, but don't support Palenque culturally or financially.
How We Work: Your support! Our fundraising directly supports the maintenance and operation of Casa Museo and village tours, village restaurants and stores, the development of its online museum tours and online store, and the support of village heritage elders and staff.
Our Goals:
In addition to preserving Palenque and Palenquero culture, we endeavor to enhance this village's economy by funding employment for village elders and staff.
